Earthquakes can not be forecasted or predicted. The primary damages at buildings, plants and infrastructure, and especially secondary damages caused by fire, explosion and pollution are a high risk for human beings and environment.

The risk increases by earthquake hazard, density of population and industry as well by the vulnerability of buildings, lifelines and industry.

Higher risk industry and lifelines get a basic design including the estimated additional earthquake load of the location. This design is based on standards such as the German KTA 2201, the European Code 8, the US Regulatory Guide or the Uniform Building Code.

BARTEC SYSCOM`s seismic instrumentation measures continuously the vibration level at the sensor location and provides alarms if limiting values get exceeded. Based on these alarms immediate inspections can be initiated or high risk processes can get shut down. Passive seismic instruments

The power consumption is extremely low, allowing the recorder to operate connected to a typical 12V/55Ah battery without the need of recharging for long time periods. Communication plug-in allows the instrument to be connected to any Seiscomp PC. Seiscomp server collects data from the remote stations.The LCD display, displays the State-of-Health, time date and other information related to the instrument’s operation. Software tools have also been developed to support both field and base station operation. The recorder is intended for installation in harsh environments and is supplied with a portable waterproof plastic case, manufactured of HPX high-performance resin, with easy press & pull latches and durable soft-grip handle with easy access to all user features.
